The old wooden pedestrian bridge (the first from the direction of Westfalenstraße) was built in 2004. Last year, during the regular bridge inspections in accordance with DIN 1076, it was discovered that the load-bearing longitudinal beams of the old wooden bridges were partially dilapidated/rotten.
For this reason, an engineering firm was commissioned to plan a new steel and timber bridge.
Demolition of the old wooden bridge will begin on Tuesday, May 25. The civil engineering work and the installation of the new steel-wood assembly bridge are scheduled to begin on Monday, May 31 and are expected to be completed on Thursday, June 3.
The new bridge is 3.54 meters wide and 6.10 meters long. The supporting structure is made of hot-dip galvanized steel. The decking and railings will be made of wood.
The total cost of renewing the pedestrian bridge is around 39,000 euros.
The bridge cannot be used during the work. The administration asks for your understanding. A detour will be signposted.
During this period, the contractor will also be renewing the bridge decking on the other two wooden bridges between Karl-Nestvogel-Weg and the parallel footpath and cycle path. This will only require a short-term closure during the work.
