Tank shell found during construction work in Flachstöckheim

During civil engineering work for the construction of the central collector in Flachstöckheim, an anti-tank grenade was found in front of the house Opperklappe 25 on Tuesday, April 14 at 10:00 am.

The find was a 7.5 cm armor-piercing grenade with a length of approx. 20 cm without a fuse. The area was cordoned off and work was stopped. The tank shell was recovered by the Hanover Explosive Ordnance Clearance Service at 12:30 pm. There was no danger to local residents at any time.

This discovery could not have been expected, as the area in question had previously been examined for possible explosive ordnance last fall. The absence of explosive ordnance was also confirmed.

From Monday, construction work will continue in the danger zone defined by the responsible State Office for Geoinformation and Land Surveying of Lower Saxony, LGLN, with explosive ordnance monitoring by a specialist company during construction. This area is located in front of the properties Opperklappe 23 - 25 in Flachstöckheim.

Construction work is currently continuing in other areas.
