As usual, episode 8 can also be seen as a premiere on the City of Salzgitter's YouTube channel - from May 28, 12 noon.
The current episode is about a picturesque little half-timbered house in Salzgitter-Watenstedt. It stands in the middle of the village square and nothing gives any indication of the story it has to tell.
The little house had a specific purpose that it had to fulfill. It was the entrance to a bunker. It was not a deep bunker, but a so-called air-raid shelter, as Ortsheimatpfleger Bernhard Schroeter reports in the film.
The shelter, built in 1942, had room for 100 people. The entrance was later visually adapted to the half-timbered surroundings, resulting in the half-timbered house that still stands on the village square today.
The Medienzentrum produces a total of 50 Salzgitter secrets, which are published monthly on the city's YouTube channel. In this way, the diverse history of the Salzgitter region is made accessible to a wide audience beyond the city limits.
The whole thing is also available in book form in Salzgitter bookshops and from mail order companies.
Anyone who would like to visit the mysterious places themselves can access an online map where all the secrets can be found. The previously published films are also available there.
