The measure, which is funded by the state, was to be carried out as quickly as possible in order to ensure that the building could be used for cultural events and schools again as soon as possible. Work was planned on the fan and filter technology of the central ventilation system. The work was to be carried out between September 2021 and April 2022.
Despite the pollutant investigations carried out in advance, pollutants (material containing asbestos) have now been found during demolition work. As a result, the work was stopped immediately and further sampling and measurements were carried out.
However, there is also good news: no fiber contamination was detected in the indoor air of the rooms supplied by the ventilation system, meaning that there was no risk to the room users at any time.
Due to the new findings, however, the original time and cost frame for the partial renovation of the ventilation system can hardly be adhered to. Extensive installation work is now required, which may lead to new implementation and scheduling plans. At the same time, alternative interim solutions with mobile systems are being examined. In order to keep the restrictions on cultural activities to a minimum, alternative rooms will be provided for individual events wherever possible.
We are working hard to keep the restrictions as limited as possible, but for the time being, the sports hall and gymnasium of the grammar school must remain closed for use.
