Salzgitter

Wohnbau Salzgitter completes 18 apartments for senior citizens in Salzgitter-Bad

Modern, barrier-free and with a view of the greenery: the new building on Hedwigstrasse is now not only ready for occupancy, but also planted. The first tenants have already moved in and feel at home.

The new building at Hedwigstrasse 48 in Salzgitter-Bad has created 18 apartments suitable for senior citizens, two of which are wheelchair-accessible; 13 of these have already been let. "We are very pleased and want to increase the attractiveness of the neighbourhood with this new building," emphasizes Jens Bischoff, Managing Director of Wohnbau. The barrier-free 2-room apartments, which are between 50 and 66 square meters in size, each have an open-plan cooking, dining and living area, a barrier-free bathroom with a walk-in shower, a separate bedroom and a separate storage room in the basement.

During a tour with the Supervisory Board, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel was pleased to note: "A good four years ago, together with the former Chairman of the Supervisory Board Rolf Stratmann, I launched the initiative for our housing association to purchase the hotel, restaurant and Jost discotheque at auction in order to construct a new building with 18 apartments suitable for senior citizens on this site. Today, our initiative is bearing fruit. On the one hand, these new apartments meet the increasing demand for senior citizens' apartments in Salzgitter-Bad. On the other hand, it is a flagship project for the Westsiedlung. For me, it is particularly important to send another positive signal for the revitalization of the east/west settlement with this new building in the west settlement, which is now ready for occupancy."

The new building combines contemporary living with state-of-the-art heating technology. During the first viewings, many of the future residents showed great interest in the technology installed and were impressed by the fittings in the apartments as well as the built-in heating and hot water system. The communal garden with seating invites residents to linger and rounds off the living comfort for senior citizens.
