Special educational advice and support in Salzgitter

Regional Advice and Support Center for Inclusive Schools (RZI) Salzgitter has started its work

Regional State Office for Schools and Education Braunschweig

Press release from 19.07.2021

There is a new contact point in Salzgitter for all questions relating to inclusive schools. Martina Stenger-Schirofski has been running the RZI Salzgitter on the premises of the land registry office for around a year and supports schools, parents, pupils and school authorities in implementing inclusion. In addition to providing local advice, she is also responsible for preparing decisions on the deployment of special educational staff in schools.

Born in Salzgitter, she has a wealth of experience in advising schools. During her time as a special needs teacher, she supported schools in the district of Peine with the implementation of inclusion. She then worked for six years as a school development consultant for the Lower Saxony state education authority, including for schools in the city of Salzgitter. She is also a member of the school development team for Schule Plus in Salzgitter.

The RZI is part of the Regional State Office for Schools and Education in Braunschweig. For its director Torsten Glaser, the RZI is an important building block in the implementation of joint schooling for all children and young people in mainstream schools. "With the Regional Advice and Support Center for Inclusive Schools, a central point of contact for all questions relating to special educational advice and support has also been created in the Salzgitter region. The local advice is available in particular to pupils, parents, teachers and also the school authorities and serves the further development of inclusion here in Salzgitter.

The aim is to help ensure that all pupils have equal access to inclusive schools and receive the best possible support," said Torsten Glaser at the presentation of the new RZI and its director in the morning.

The first 11 RZIs were launched nationwide on 01.08.2017. 28 more followed successively in the following years, nine of them in the area of the Regional State Office for Schools and Education in Braunschweig.

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel sees the RZI as a great asset for his city:

"The implementation of inclusive education is an important social task. With the RZI in Salzgitter, the state of Lower Saxony is providing an efficient and needs-based advisory and support system that advises, supports and assists schools in implementing the requirements of an inclusive school. This makes the RZI a central point of contact for teachers, parents, pupils and the city of Salzgitter as the school authority."
