The Warne has its source in the Salzgitter mountain range. It flows past a protected biotope. It is the New Pond. However, the New Pond is not that new, as it was created in the 15th century for salt extraction. Its fresh water was necessary for the extraction of raw brine from the rock salt deposits.
Biologist Walter Wimmer is on site as an expert and talks about the history of the former salt works pond and how important the biotope still is today.
If you would like to visit the mysterious places in Salzgitter yourself, you can access an online map where all the secrets can be found. The previously published films can also be accessed there.
