Salzgitter

Focus on the digital world

Artificial intelligence, big data and the internet are making everyday life easier. But what exactly is behind all this? How does the technology work? And how can the data be protected? The new "Stadt | Land | DatenFluss" app provides answers to these questions.

In an accompanying series of online events, in which the Volkshochschule of the city of Salzgitter is participating, experts will discuss how the digital world of data is shaping different areas of life and what opportunities and risks this presents for society and each and every individual.

Six digital discussion events on the topics of artificial intelligence, big data, smart home, mobility of the future, digital healthcare and Work 4.0 will be offered at the Volkshochschule between April and November.

The first event in the series on Tuesday, April 13, is entitled "Are algorithms fair? Artificial intelligence between progress and heteronomy" is dedicated to the question of the consequences of the spread of learning systems for our coexistence and how artificial intelligence can be shaped in the interests of people. Guests include Lorena Jaume-Palasí, founder of The Ethical Tech Society initiative, who deals with the ethics of digitalization and automation, and Prof. Dr. Tobias Matzner, Professor of Media, Algorithms and Society at Paderborn University.

The "Stadt I Land I DatenFluss" app is part of German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel's "Digital Education Initiative". She is the patron of the app, which is available free of charge in the app stores. The app contributes to a basic understanding of digital applications and technologies and promotes the enlightened and responsible use of personal data. The app takes a playful approach based on everyday experiences. It is aimed at all sections of the population - from tech-savvy people who use digital innovations as a matter of course to those who only use the internet sporadically. The app shows in a simple way how digital technology can make everyday life easier.

In addition, the Volkshochschule Salzgitter offers various (online) courses in which participants can exchange ideas on how to use digital tools and discuss the careful use of data.
