Three members of the Salzgitter fire department, Björn Schulz, Alexander Junge and Ronja Behnke, were successful in this sporting competition. Over 100 participants from all over Germany took part in the competition in various categories. The entire course could be completed by one participant alone (individual), in pairs (tandem) or in a team of three to five participants (relay).
The team from the Salzgitter professional fire department started with one individual runner, 2 tandem pairs and a relay team. The team took second place in the individual start, relay start and tandem mixed categories at the national championships, as well as third place in the tandem male category. The team returned to the fire station in the evening with six silver and two bronze medals after a successful and exhausting day of competition.
The challenge involved carrying a 20-kilogram hose package up three floors in full protective gear. Once there, another 20 kilogram hose package had to be pulled up the three floors on a rope. It then had to be brought back down the three floors as quickly as possible. Once at the bottom, a weight weighing around 75 kilograms had to be knocked backwards one meter using a hammer. The next stage was a slalom course, at the end of which a filled hose had to be picked up. This was pulled over a distance of 25 meters and a target was sprayed at the end. The last discipline was pulling an 80 kilogram dummy over a distance of 30 meters. The entire course had to be completed as quickly as possible.
"Once again, we congratulate our competitors from the professional fire departments in Lower Saxony on their successes. Our goal for the coming year is of course to defend or improve our title and to prepare for this in training," said the team from the Salzgitter professional fire department.
This year's team from the Salzgitter professional fire department consisted of Björn Schulz, Alexander Junge and Ronja Behnke.
