Disc golf tournament at Salzgittersee enters its 12th round

For the twelfth time, a nationwide disc golf tournament will be held on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 on the island in Salzgittersee as part of a tour of Germany.

This is the only two-day tournament in the new Discgolf North series.

In cooperation with the Wolfenbüttel disc golf club Tee-Timers, Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH (BSF) is offering a challenging and attractive course. "Apart from a few minor changes, it's basically the same attractive course as the German Championship 2020, which we were able to secure for Salzgitter," says Wolfgang Philippsen, Head of Division at BSF, who is looking forward to the upcoming event. The 18 baskets form challenging targets across the entire island area. The respective courses have a length of 68 to 230 meters. The entire course will be prepared by the municipal maintenance company (SRB).

The format has changed this year. 90 participants will start on Saturday in 18 groups of five in a so-called shotgun start. This means that a different group will start at each lane, but all together at the same time. The format will be changed for the final. 20 groups of four and two groups of five will rotate across the island in the golf start and determine the placings. "This means that the first group of four will start on the first course, ten minutes later the second group will start there and then the next group every ten minutes," explains tournament director Andreas Martin.

Defending champion Christian Plaue will not be taking part. This will keep the streak going that no Islander has ever been able to defend their title in Salzgitter. "There is no clear favorite this year, but a completely new name will definitely go down in the annals of the tournament as the winner," reveals Martin.

The circular route around the island can be used by visitors on both days of the event. However, the organizers ask that visitors stay on the circular path to avoid any unpleasant encounters with the targets. Public play on the normal
12-hole course is not possible.

The first throw-off will take place on Saturday at 9:30 am. The second round starts at 14:00.
The final round will start on Sunday at 8:00 am. The award ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
