In the 2000 square meter Eiszeitgarten at Salder Castle Municipal Museum (opens in a new tab), you can immerse yourself in the world of mammoths, woolly rhinos and giant deer and learn a lot about nature and the climate.
Since last year, a life-size giant deer has also enriched the Eiszeitgarten. The figure is not a representation of just any subspecies, but of the largest and best-known representative: Megaloceros giganteus! The giant deer lived in Eurasia for around 400,000 years. It became extinct in Europe at the end of the last glacial period around 11,500 years ago. The giant animals will also have roamed the area of present-day Salzgitter.
