The storm caused damage to property, but fortunately there were no personal injuries. The main areas of operation were Salzgitter-Gebhardshagen, Salzgitter-Lichtenberg and Salzgitter-Bad. However, there were also a few weather-related incidents in the northern part of the city.
Both stations of the professional fire department and ten local fire departments of the Salzgitter volunteer fire department were deployed.
During an operation in Salzgitter-Thiede, a wooden greenhouse was torn away by the storm and smashed into a car. This morning, a fire department operation was still underway in Salzgitter-Ringelheim, where a tree that had been loosened at the roots by the storm threatened to fall onto a detached house. The tree was sawed off piece by piece from above using a turntable ladder. The operation has now been successfully completed.
Eric Neiseke, Head of the Fire Department and First City Councillor, gave a positive assessment of the night-time operations: "Our fire departments had a clear overview of the situation at all times and were able to get to the scene quickly. As a new storm is expected to hit during the night from Friday to Saturday, I can only say from last night's operations: our fire department is well prepared."
