Who would like to become a youth leader?

For young people aged 15 and over who are interested in volunteering as a youth leader in children and youth work, the youth development department offers annual youth leader courses. There are still places available for the course starting in May/June, which focuses on vacation camps.

The focus is on working together with young people.

The youth leader training course starts with four days of instruction at the Forellenhof youth culture workshop to impart basic theoretical and legal knowledge. The course content includes topics on legal issues (duty of supervision, liability and child endangerment), pedagogy (leadership styles, group phases, group dynamics) and many practical suggestions for action: group games, organization and planning of camps, events and group activities. There are also tips and tricks for public relations work, applying for grants and other assistance for day-to-day work.

Afterwards, the participants have the opportunity to put the knowledge they have gained into practice as a supervisor during the Whitsun retreat of the city of Salzgitter on the island of Neuwerk and to reflect on their own actions in the group. In addition, further small teaching units and exercises take place. Participation in the short retreat on Neuwerk is an obligatory part of the training.

All participants should enjoy working with children's and youth groups and also have qualities such as reliability and a sense of responsibility and be prepared to question their own behavior. Participation in all course dates and completion of a first aid course are also required.

The City of Salzgitter's youth development department offers those interested pedagogical training, interesting practical assignments and many opportunities to gain experience in dealing with other people. An expense allowance for the assignment is usually included.

Acquiring the Youth Leader Card (JULEICA) entitles you to numerous discounts at many public facilities, such as going to the cinema or swimming pool. The qualification and the JuleicaCard can also be useful for job applications.
