The city is thus assuming a financial guarantee of 800,000 euros in the event that the federal and state governments reduce or cancel their own funding.
Klingebiel emphasized that "with this agreement, the social institutions have financial and personnel planning security for the next five years." "Because here locally," said Klingebiel, "people are actively involved in the development of their district." The Lord Mayor also referred to the excellent concept for the district centers and thanked all those responsible for it. The district centers and their staff offer language courses for migrants, homework help, courses for women and advice for people living in the district.
All the providers of the facilities (AWO, Caritas, Diakonie, Mütterzentrum and Bürgerverein Steterburg) reacted with relief that they can now continue their work in the districts and the trusting cooperation with the local people. The city administration will continue to try to exploit as many funding opportunities as possible to support the social meeting places.
Due to the previous state funding, which was always for one year, the providers of the district meeting points were faced with the challenge of only being able to employ staff such as social workers for a limited period of one year. As the state funding for the coming year has not yet been approved, the Salzgitter City Council decided at its meeting on February 22, 2022 to compensate for any lack of funding from the city.
