"Welcome to our sports-loving city," said Mayor Frank Klingebiel, welcoming the young volleyball elite from Lower Saxony and Bremen. His thanks for this special event go to the volleyball department of MTV Salzgitter, who hosted this sporting event and demonstrated their organizational talent and planning skills at previous Northwest German Championships (U18 female 2017 and U14 female 2013).
"My special thanks go to everyone involved who prepared this tournament and invested a lot of time. Only with dedicated helpers can a club achieve great things and inspire with this event after the two-year "forced break"," said Frank Klingebiel
The Northwest German Youth Championships for U14 males took place in Salzgitter for the first time. The champions and runners-up of the Weser-Ems, Bremen/Lüneburg, Hanover and Braunschweig district championships as well as MTV Salzgitter as the host were eligible to take part.
"I wish all the players every success in the championship. I am sure that all guests will experience a great sports weekend with exciting rallies. I would like to thank the MTV for their outstanding commitment," said Frank Klingebiel.
The MTV Salzgitter U14 team took part in a major national tournament for the very first time. The team achieved a great sensation by reaching the semi-finals. In the end, the young Salzgitter players only just missed out on the bronze medal with a 1-2 defeat in the match for third place against their neighbors from USC Braunschweig.
The spectators witnessed exciting matches during the two-day youth championship and cheered on the players with enthusiasm.
The 100 youngsters, coaches, supervisors and referees thanked the MTV for organizing and supervising this major two-day event.
All participants and helpers enjoyed this sports weekend. There was a lot of praise from the foreign teams for the sporting conditions in Salzgitter.
USC Braunschweig was unable to defend its title. The new "Northwest German Youth Champion" was TV Eiche Horn Bremen with a 2 to 1 victory over SVG Lüneburg in the final. These two teams have thus also qualified for the German Championships in Frankfurt.
