Salzgitter

Council meeting on November 16

The focus of the council meeting on November 16 was the double budget for 2023 and 2024.

Right at the beginning of the agenda, Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel and First City Councillor Eric Neiseke introduced the budget statutes and the business plans of the municipal enterprises into the political discussion. According to Klingebiel, the coronavirus and energy crises are placing an extreme burden on the budget, as are the war in Ukraine and inflation.

"Despite all efforts to make savings, the explosive cost increases cannot be absorbed," emphasize Klingebiel and Neiseke. The federal and state governments are therefore not only called upon, but actually obliged, to ensure that Salzgitter and all other local authorities have sustainable funding.

The draft budget will now be discussed by the specialist committees in the coming weeks.

During the course of the meeting, the city parliament approved the construction of several new daycare centers and elementary school as part of the structural aid program and integration fund of the state of Lower Saxony. The committee was also informed about the 2020/2021 environmental report.

The meeting concluded with motions and questions from the parliamentary groups. The current and detailed agenda can be viewed in the citizen information system at salzgitter.de.
