Salzgitter

Council meeting on February 2

The Salzgitter City Council was informed about the implementation of the 2022 census at its meeting on February 2.

A census is a survey that determines how many people live in Germany, how they live and how they work. The 2022 census is essentially carried out on the basis of the population register. A sample survey is therefore carried out to eliminate inaccuracies in the population register.

The federal and state statistical offices are working together for the census. They are responsible for conducting the surveys in their respective federal states. They independently collect the data for the building and housing census and organize the establishment of survey offices in the municipalities. The census is carried out locally by the city of Salzgitter in the local census office, which was set up specifically for this purpose. The city of Salzgitter is still looking for census officers for this voluntary work.

The city parliament has decided to submit applications for the "small climate-friendly forum" sub-projects in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad. This is part of the implementation of an initial project for the EU funding program "Perspektive Innenstadt!". "We are thus setting a first milestone for a whole bundle of projects to revitalize the two centers," explains Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel.

A total of 25 solar benches with a Wi-Fi connection are being funded so that the benches not only serve as seating, but can also be used to charge mobile devices. You can also surf the internet, as the solar benches serve as a WLAN hotspot for the open and free WLAN. The benches are supplemented with fog technology to lower the ambient temperature and drinking fountains for refreshment. The locations chosen were the area around the "In den Blumentriften" Stadtmonument in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt and the "Schützenplatz/Vorsalzer Straße" area in Salzgitter-Bad.

The meeting ended with motions and questions from the parliamentary groups. The current and detailed agenda can be viewed in the citizen information system at salzgitter.de.
