Salzgitter

Council meeting on July 13

A 5th project will be implemented as part of the Salzgitter hydrogen campus. This was decided by the Salzgitter City Council at its meeting on July 13.

A hybrid shunting locomotive will be retrofitted with a hydrogen direct combustion engine. The basis for this is an application for funding submitted by the project group under the leadership of Alstom.

In the further course of the meeting, the committee was informed, among other things, about the status report on the project company's acquisition program in Salzgitter-Watenstedt for the first half of 2022. 19 notarizations had been carried out by the deadline of 24.05.2022. Four further land purchases are planned in the course of 2022.

The construction of a toilet facility in the city center of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt was also on the agenda as part of the EU funding program "Perspektive Innenstadt!", which was approved by the city parliament. The location is Chemnitzer Straße near the trade union building.

Two further draft resolutions also dealt with the EU funding program "Perspektive Innenstadt". Following approval by the council, this will be used to finance Christmas lighting for Salzgitter-Bad and Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, the introduction of an online marketplace, the creation of play trails and the installation of digital information boards in the Lebenstedt and Bad centers.

Furthermore, a "small climate-friendly forum" will be created in both the Lebenstedt and Bad centers. This will involve replacing dying trees with new climate-resilient trees, installing fogging technology to lower the ambient temperature and installing drinking fountains for refreshment. This will create green oases to linger in, making the city centers even more attractive. Seating with backrests is planned to complement the solar benches project.

The Council also approved a funding guideline for GPs. This is because securing the long-term supply of GPs will be an immense challenge for the entire state of Lower Saxony in the coming years, but also for the city of Salzgitter. In Lower Saxony, only three out of 46 care areas have a care level of 100 percent. Doctors retiring in the future for reasons of age will reinforce this trend.

The meeting ended with motions and questions from the parliamentary groups. The detailed agenda can be viewed in the citizen information system at salzgitter.de.
