Construction sites, vaccination campaigns, police searches, water or sewage supply disruptions, ÖPNV restrictions, reports of major incidents and evacuations - all of this information can be quickly communicated to citizens using BIWAPP. This was the reason why the city of Salzgitter is now using the smartphone app from Marktplatz GmbH, which is already widely used throughout Germany and Lower Saxony. First City Councillor Eric Neiseke, who as head of the fire department is also responsible for disaster control, explains: "In our modern society, it is important for us as a city administration to be able to inform our citizens quickly. This applies not only to major emergencies such as major fires, but also to reports of school closures, road closures or construction sites that affect daily life in our city. It is particularly positive that we cooperate with the Salzgitter, Peine, Wolfenbüttel police inspectorate, WEVG, Abwasserentsorgung Salzgitter GmbH and KVG Braunschweig in the operation of BIWAPP and can therefore offer a wide range of information."
BIWAPP supplements the information provided by the city on the website www.salzgitter.de, (opens in a new tab) the information on the websites of the police, WEVG, ASG and KVG as well as messages from all parties involved in the respective social media channels.
How to use the app?
The BIWAPP app can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and works on all common smartphones and tablets with Android and iOS. Further information can also be found at www.biwapp.de/salzgitter (opens in a new tab).
To set the BIWAPP app to Salzgitter, the following must be done: The menu item "My Places" can be found in the app. There you can select "Salzgitter" or one of the 31 city districts by entering the zip code or city and select a radius. You can also select the categories for which push notifications are to be displayed on the mobile device.
