New Salzgitter secret on YouTube: The bell tower

In the 20th edition of the popular series "Salzgitter Secrets", the Medienzentrum of the city of Salzgitter is on the road in Salzgitter-Salder with local heritage curator Renate Vanis.

Local historian Renate Vanis reports on the history of Salder's castle church.

Salder is best known for its Renaissance castle, which was once a princely residence and agricultural estate and now houses the municipal museum.

In addition to today's castle museum, there is also the castle church of St. Maria Magdalena. The history of the church dates back to the end of the 17th century. After the sale of the castle and the village of Salder by the Lords of Salder to Hereditary Prince August Wilhelm around 1695/96, the patronage of the church also passed to the Guelph sovereign a few years later, who was now able to build a church in his own village.

Construction of the castle church began in 1713. Renate Vanis reveals the special architectural features of the church in the film. Another secret about the castle church is also revealed. A gruesome story that remains a mystery to this day.
