Salzgitter

Historic fire department objects for the museum

Renovation work on the main fire station of the Salzgitter professional fire department in Lebenstedt, which was built in 1980, will begin in the near future.

This portable fire pump trailer from 1905 will be transferred from the professional fire department to the Salder Castle Municipal Museum along with other objects. Present at the handover (from left): Antje Ahrens from the Salder Castle Municipal Museum, Deputy Head of the Fire Service Martin Mann, City Councillor Jan Erik Bohling and Fire Service Press Officer Marcus Spiller.

First of all, space has to be created for the construction work, and in the process, employees of the fire department have found some fire department objects from the 1950s to the 1970s, which they have offered to the Salder Castle Municipal Museum for its collection.

The collection consists of larger technical equipment from this period and a collection of small objects such as helmets, belts, badges and other technical items.

"The municipal museum is happy to take on these objects, as a large hands-on exhibition on the subject of the fire department is planned for 2025," said Jan Erik Bohling, Head of Cultural Affairs. By then at the latest, the objects will also be on display to the public on the museum's premises.
