The majority of the operations were limited to the north-western part of the city. In addition to the professional fire department, 19 volunteer fire department units were also deployed.
The deputy fire chief of the Reppner volunteer fire department, Matthias Ullrich, reported on mostly overflowing gullies and flooded cellars. The local fire chief of the Lebenstedt volunteer fire department, Dominik Grochmann, was also able to report on these scenarios.
The Salzgitter fire department's incident command deployed the individual units of the volunteer fire department in a targeted and prioritized manner.
But it didn't stop at flooded cellars. There were a large number of triggered fire alarms that had to be dealt with.
There were also a large number of traffic accidents. One operation kept the emergency services particularly busy. A car crashed on Ludwig-Erhard-Straße at 01:23 in the morning. The driver of the car was trapped in his vehicle and had to be freed using hydraulic rescue equipment.
There was also an increased number of emergency calls. The newly installed overflow lines to the Hildesheim control center proved their worth here.
Despite the diversity and often difficult operations, all emergency crews returned home without any damage. Once again, special thanks go to all volunteers.
