All boys and girls from first to fourth grade have this opportunity, as the city library is organizing the competition for the 15th time in a row.
All children who attend elementary school can take part. Unlike in previous years, this year the city library has not specified a list of books. No matter whether it's exciting, scary, romantic or light-hearted - each child decides for themselves which books to read.
After reading, they have to answer questions about the books they have read at www.antolin.de (opens in a new tab). Points are then added to the personal Antolin account for correct answers. Parents register their children for the competition at one of the city library branches or by e-mail at lesefoerderungstadt.salzgitterde.
"The Antolin competition is an invitation to pick up books over the summer and enjoy reading," says Sylvia Fiedler, Head of the City Library. "That's why the term 'summer reading club' is far more appropriate for this reading offer, because rather than being about reading in a race, Antolin is about unlimited summer reading pleasure," adds Fiedler. In addition to the reading fun, children also learn to read better.
The incentive to take part in this year's Antolin competition is that every child who has read at least two books and successfully answered the online questions will receive a medal and a certificate. Exciting prizes are also waiting for the best performers, i.e. those with the most points in the respective class level.
In addition, this year there will once again be several free club meetings for all registered participants. The various attractions and activities include, for example, a tour of the animal shelter and an exciting outdoor morning.
For the first time this year, there will also be a special campaign: creative postcards are required, which participants in the Antolin competition can hand in at all three branches of the city library. It doesn't matter whether the postcards are homemade or bought, in the end it's the creativity of the primary school children that counts. Whoever sends or brings the most beautiful and original postcard to the city library can also win an extra prize.
Registration is now open at the city library, either in person during opening hours or by email at lesefoerderungstadt.salzgitterde.
