Renovation work has begun on gas pipes in Kattowitzer Straße in Lebenstedt. A 1,000-metre-long medium-pressure gas pipeline and a 965-metre-long local gas network pipeline running parallel to it are being replaced. The medium-pressure gas pipeline serves to supply Salzgitter-Salder. The work is being carried out using the open construction method in the sidewalk area, which means that one lane of Kattowitzer Straße will have to be closed in sections. The renovation work is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Since Tuesday, April 25, there have been disruptions to road traffic in the Heckenrosenweg-Dornbusch and Franz-Zobel-Straße areas in Salzgitter-Bad due to renovation work on the gas and water pipes, including the associated house connections. The renovation project is planned over two years and is expected to be completed in fall 2024.
In the affected areas, 103 water service connections and 89 gas service connections will be renewed or tied back, and 1,341 meters of water supply pipes and 1,694 meters of gas supply pipes will be replaced. The work will be carried out using the open construction method, which means that asphalt roadways and sidewalks will have to be opened up.

The work on the drinking water pipes is being carried out by WEVG Salzgitter. The construction work in the natural gas sector is being coordinated by WEVG Salzgitter on behalf of the network operator Avacon Netz and is being carried out by the company Rohrleitungsbau Münster, Hanover branch.

Rohrleitungsbau Münster will contact the affected residents in good time for the renewal of the house connection pipes. In connection with the connection and reconnection work on house connection and supply lines, it is necessary to interrupt the drinking water and gas supply for a foreseeable period of time. The duration of this interruption depends on the work required for the connection or reconnection work. Residents will be informed separately in advance about the type and duration of the interruption.

Avacon is responsible for the gas construction work because WEVG Salzgitter GmbH & Co KG, as the owner of the electricity and natural gas networks in the city of Salzgitter, has leased the energy networks to Avacon as the network operator. The obligations of the grid operator also include the corresponding maintenance of the grids.
