Salzgitter

60 years of the Neuwerk youth and education camp

Under the title "Jugend- und Bildungscamp der Stadt Salzgitter - 1961-2023: Neuwerk yesterday and today", there is a lot to discover about the smallest inhabited island in Germany and the 32nd district of Salzgitter in an almost 30-page brochure...

Last year, the children and youth development department of the city of Salzgitter was looking for people who wanted to share their Neuwerk experiences. A commemorative publication was planned to mark the 60th anniversary of the Neuwerk youth and education camp with personal impressions and/or photos to honor this anniversary.

Many people got in touch: With memories of special summer vacations and overnight stays in the tents, with stories about the search for amber or the shopping spree at "Klein-Karstadt". Old photos, new photos and anecdotes were sifted through and collected with the help of the Neuwerk Friends' Association.

The brochure focuses on these personal journeys through time as well as the development from a tent camp to a youth and educational camp. In addition, the Förderverein Neuwerk presents its acquisitions and construction measures over the past 25 years.

In short: a brochure worth reading for all Neuwerk fans and those who would like to learn more about the uniqueness of this island and the youth and education camp after reading it.

The brochure is available as a pdf file on the Salzgitter city website (keyword Neuwerk).
