Salzgitter

Opening of the "Wage and Bread" exhibition

The Municipal Art Collections of the City of Salzgitter are showing numerous works by 20 artists under the title "Wages and Bread" in the exhibition series "Memory of Work". Anyone interested is invited to the exhibition opening on Sunday, March 19, at 11 a.m. in the Museum Schloss Salder.

"Shopping" is the title of this oil painting by Lars Eckert.

The phrase "earning a living" means that you have a paid job and therefore have the opportunity to earn a living. Earning a living is undoubtedly the greatest motivation for people to spend a certain amount of their lives working - but nowadays it is by no means the only one.

For thousands of years, work, wages and bread were primarily about sustaining one's own life. This has remained the same well into the 21st century. For some decades now, however, it has been just as important to have a meaningful occupation - this can mean something different for each person, through work, social participation or being part of the social work process, finding self-affirmation in what one does. Most of the works still document the classic way of earning a living; the more recent works show the development into the future.

The works of the following artists are on display:
Hermann Albert; Ulrich Baehr; Thomas Bayerle; Rafael Canogar; Cons; Harald Duwe; Lars Eckert; Helmut Göttel; Edward B. Gordon; Jakob Greuter; Jolán Gross-Bettelheim; Alex Hanimann; Menashe Kadishman; Maksim Kantor; Gerhard Marcks; Siegfried Neuenhausen; Joachim Palm; Katrin Ribbe; Joanna Schulte and HP Zimmer.

A special feature of the exhibition is the new acquisition "In the Steelworks" by the artist Edward B. Gordon, which was donated to the Municipal Art Collections by the Dr. Juch Cultural Foundation.

The exhibition can be seen until May 21 during the opening hours of the Municipal Art Collections in Salder Castle (Museumsstraße 34) (Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and offers guided tours on several Sundays. Registration is required for these. Further information can be found on the municipal website in the calendar of events.
