Sandra Sorrentino from the City of Salzgitter's daycare center advisory service and Katja Kepp (specialist for family centers and Early Excellence on behalf of the city) welcomed ten soccer teams to the pitch. Nine of them came from the family centers alone.
The preliminary round matches each lasted 14 minutes, with seven players from each team on the pitch at the same time. Substitutions were possible at any time in order to keep the pace of play as high as possible.
The matches not only attracted the amateur players to the pitch, 850 visitors cheered on their teams. With the participating teams, the tournament and family festival in Salder was attended by a total of around 1,000 people.
First place went to the team from the Purzelbaum family center in Fredenberg, second place to the team from the KunterBund family center in Salzgitter-Bad and third place to the kickers from the St. Elisabeth family center in Lebenstedt. The award ceremony was presented by the Eintracht Braunschweig mascot Leo the Lion. Beforehand, there were plenty of hands to shake for the giant cuddly toy and autograph cards to hand out to the spectators and, of course, many wanted to take a photo with the extraordinary guest.
But it wasn't just top sporting performances from the amateur players. Further entertainment was provided by a wheel of fortune with lots of great prizes, face painting, coloring and soccer darts. A balloon artist also formed artistic figures in front of the guests.
