At an on-site meeting, Head of Schools Dr. Dirk Härdrich explains: "We want to avoid parents taking cabs to the front of the school building and at the same time increase the safety of pupils on their way to school. Work on the new school building will begin here in the middle of the year, which will lead to increased danger for children due to construction traffic. To avoid this, the best measure here at the Wiesenstraße site was to set up a pick-up and drop-off zone on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, as the pupils can cover the rest of the route via the less busy Crammwiese street."
Bettina Buttke, principal of the elementary school, adds: "Exercise is important in the morning so that the children start their lessons alert and attentive. My request to all parents is to use this pick-up and drop-off zone and let the children get off there on the side of the footpath.
The pick-up and drop-off zone was set up in collaboration with the school, the municipal accident insurance association, the traffic watch and the police. Together with other measures such as the pedestrian driving license, this is a building block for greater safety on the way to school.
