Salzgitter

Council meeting on September 20

No more than 200 refugees will be assigned to the city of Salzgitter within the next year (from October) and thus distributed. The allocation and distribution of refugees beyond this will be suspended for the time being.

In addition, the immigration ban for recognized refugees remains in place. Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel and Member of Parliament Stefan Klein have reached this agreement with the state government of Lower Saxony. Klingebiel reported on this at the council meeting on September 20.

The Lord Mayor also informed the committee about the approval of the budget statutes for the 2023/2024 financial years by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport. In this regard, Klingebiel emphasized: "However, it remains to be said that the city of Salzgitter, like the other municipalities in Lower Saxony, must face up to the constantly growing state tasks that are being transferred to the municipalities by the federal government and the state of Lower Saxony. Here, it is primarily the federal government, but also the state of Lower Saxony, that must continue to provide adequate funding for the implementation of the increasingly state-imposed tasks for all municipalities, if necessary flanked by a further debt relief program."

In the course of the agenda, the construction of four shelters at Salzgittersee was also reported on. They have no side walls to ensure greater hygiene and safety. In addition, the shelters are to be built to be as vandalism and fire resistant as possible.

The committee approved the continuation of the expansion program for the barrier-free redesign of bus stops from 2025 to 2029 and the introduction of the yellow garbage can at the beginning of 2026.

The meeting concluded with motions and questions from the political groups. The current and detailed agenda can be viewed in the Council information system.
