Salzgitter

Practicing autobiographical and creative writing

On Friday, August 25, a writing workshop will be held by the Literature Office and the Social Services and Senior Citizens Department of the City of Salzgitter.

It is aimed at all interested senior citizens who would like to put stories (perhaps parts of their own life story) on paper and get to know elements of creative writing.

The main aim is to answer questions such as: "How can you start a story - with a blank page in front of you - and - many attempts at writing and filled pages later - bring it to a suitable conclusion? How can you build up a text and create an arc of suspense? How can the characters appearing in the text be brought to life through writing? How do you make the text more vivid?"
The aim is to approach these questions and possible answers to them together and to practise using suitable literary tools. Texts written by the participants at home will be read and discussed together, and writing impulses will be offered. Writing experience is not a prerequisite.

The course is led by Reinhard Försterling and Dr. Aneka Viering. The course is an event organized by the Literature Office of the City of Salzgitter's Department of Culture in cooperation with the Senior Citizens' Office of the City of Salzgitter's Department of Social Affairs and Senior Citizens.

When and where does the writing workshop take place?

The writing workshop is planned as a series of events at roughly monthly intervals, each Friday morning from 9.30 am to 12 noon. The first course meeting will take place on Friday, August 25, with further dates to be arranged during the first lesson. The course takes place at the Seniorentreff Salzgitter-Bad, at Braunschweiger Str. 137a.

Participation in the seminar is free of charge for course participants. Binding registration is requested.
