These are twelve solar benches in the Chemnitzer Straße area and between the station/ZOB bus stop and Lebenstedt station. These not only serve as additional seating: True to the motto "chill-chat-charge", they also offer smart functions. For example, the benches each have two USB charging sockets and QI charging surfaces for smartphones that support wireless charging simply by placing them on the bench.

The built-in solar modules supply the benches with the necessary power completely independently and provide controlled lighting in the evening hours.

The city of Salzgitter also offers free internet via a WIFI hotspot called freeWIFI Salzgitter on solar benches with a WIFI symbol. The access points were activated on 22.03.2023.

How long the benches will be available to citizens will depend on how they are used. Proper and careful use will significantly increase their lifespan and thus offer lasting added value for Salzgitter's city centers.
