Discover the library with all your senses

In the Am Fredenberg City Library, a multi-motor skills cube provides fun and learning pleasure.

The Salzgitter City Library now offers even more fun for the little ones at the Fredenberg branch with the multi-motor skills cube. It is a real attraction and much more than just a play station with lots of entertaining pages.

Little explorers can move small wooden cars, feel shapes, try out fasteners and turn a wheel, but there are also spring balls, a magnifying glass, a magic wand, a rotating disk tower, a magnetic chip tube, a feeler bag, a threaded rod and a squeaker to discover. "The little guests in the house do this with great enthusiasm," reports Vasiliki Treskas, team leader at Fredenberg. The multi-cube is an enormous enrichment because it provides an opportunity for a stimulating play break and also supports learning with all the senses, which is why the cube is in exactly the right place in the library, she continues. The cube offers variety and fun in addition to the many beautiful picture books on the shelves and in the book boxes at Fredenberg.

Measuring 60 by 60 centimeters, the motor skills cube is just the right height for children of picture book age and large enough to be used by several girls and boys at the same time.

The purchase was made possible by the Salzgitter Library Association. "Promoting reading for the very young is more than just looking at books and reading aloud," says Karin Verstegen, Chairwoman of the library association. "Discovering the world with your hands, ears and eyes - and in the city library - is a great way to promote children's holistic development through play. That's why we were very happy to give the money to buy this play station," she explains.

"I am very grateful to the library society for this generous donation. By providing an attractive invitation to play, the cube also enhances the Fredenberg branch as a place where people enjoy spending time without obligation. I am delighted if the play station makes the city library at this location with its many great offers even more attractive for the people on Fredenberg and they come to the library to discover and use books, games, other media or digital offers," says the head of the city library, Sylvia Fiedler.
