City library: Exchange market for seedlings

"From now on, you can swap items in the library," reports Barbara Henning, Deputy Head of the Salzgitter City Library.

"Anyone who loves plants and doesn't necessarily want to spend money on their passion will get their money's worth here." According to Henning, anyone who has leftover cuttings or doesn't know what to do with their plants is also welcome to use this opportunity to perhaps make someone else happy.

As part of the "Seed Library" project, the city library is launching another opportunity to ensure more diversity in local gardens with the free exchange market: from Tuesday, May 23, home-grown vegetable, herb and flower seedlings can be brought or taken away.

The seedlings can be handed in at all three branches of the city library during the respective opening hours. If they have not yet been labeled, this can be done in the libraries. In return, up to three seedlings can be taken from the swap meet. Organizer Meike Buthmann says: "Of course we hope that it's a fair give and take. But even if you don't bring a seedling, you can choose up to three seedlings from the swap meet." The aim is to promote the diversity of varieties in private gardens and to give people the opportunity to swap surplus plants.
