Salzgitter

With the VHS to the Balkans and the Orient

This year, the Volkshochschule (VHS) of the city of Salzgitter is once again offering two study trips. The first destinations will be Romania and Bulgaria from September 25 to October 3. The United Arab Emirates and Oman will follow in November. Registrations are now being accepted.

Romania and Bulgaria

The tour in Romania starts in Sibiu, the city of Sibiu once founded by German colonists. It continues through Transylvania with the highlight Sighisoara (Schässburg), the most beautiful medieval architectural complex in the country with a fortress from the 13th century (UNESCO World Heritage Site). There are also castles and palaces around Brasov (Kronstadt) such as Sinaia and Bran, the home of Dracula. The final stop is the capital Bucharest, the "Paris of the East".

In Bulgaria, the first stop is Veliko Tarnovo, the old capital. This is followed over the next three days by the Valley of the Thracian Kings with Kazanlak, the Damascena rose complex, a wine-growing region, Plovdiv, the journey on a narrow-gauge railroad to Bansko, the Rila Monastery and, of course, the metropolis of Sofia. The price for this tour to both countries is EUR 1,995 per person for 16 participants. If at least 21 people book, the price is reduced by 100 euros.

United Arab Emirates and Oman

The vibrant United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well as Oman are the destination of a journey of contrasts from November 9 to 19. On the one hand the wealth of the oil states on the Gulf, on the other hand tradition and modernity in the up-and-coming country on the Indian Ocean. Its history is as diverse as its landscape.

In Oman, architectural highlights meet archaeological features and a seafaring culture dating back thousands of years. A jeep desert tour with oases and their sometimes turquoise-blue water sources is also an adventure. The tour price per person for the Gulf States and Oman is 2,990 euros.
