Narrating Europe. New narratives for a united Europe, May 16, 7:30 to 9 p.m.
About the content:
European integration is a peace project that developed out of the atrocities and violence of the first half of the 20th century. The European Union was never just an alliance of geopolitical and economic interests, but also an ideal and a dream of a better world. In the crises of recent years, from the debt crisis to Brexit and migration issues, these dreams have often been somewhat lost sight of. The event will discuss how a modern Europe can rethink itself, what narratives the EU needs again today in order to convincingly present what it really stands for and what it can stand for in the future.
On the panel: Charlotte Galpin, University of Birmingham, Department of Political Science and International Studies; Jonas Lüscher, writer (Switzerland, Germany); Kateryna Mishchenko, writer (Ukraine, Germany), Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin; Pawel Zerka, Senior Policy Fellow, Paris Office of the European Council on Foreign Relations; moderator: Charlotte Noblet, Franco-German journalist.
Organized by the Centre Franco-Allemand de Provence in Aix-en-Provence in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation Paris and in partnership with the Goethe-Institut France, the Haus Rheinland-Pfalz in Dijon and vhs.wissen live. With simultaneous translation into German and French.
One year of Italian government. A balance sheet, May 30, 7:30 to 9 p.m.
About the content:
Georgia Meloni has led the Italian government since October 2022. What has the government achieved so far in terms of domestic and foreign policy? How has it positioned itself on Europe and migration issues? Can Georgia Meloni and her party "fratelli d`Italia" rightly be called post-fascist, as is often the case in the German-language media, and how do Italians view her? Dr. Christiane Liermann Traniello and Herbert Dorfmann will discuss these questions.
Herbert Dorfmann is an Italian agronomist and member of the European Parliament for the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP).
Christiane Liermann heads the German-Italian Center for European Dialogue, which is based at Villa Vigoni in Loveno di Menaggio.
