An important member of the team was a native of Salzgitter: Daniel Theis from Gebhardshagen, currently under contract with the Indiana Pacers in the North American professional NBA league.

He learned the sport of basketball in Salzgitter and has since carried the name of our city out into the world. Now he joins the illustrious ancestral gallery of Salzgitter's world champion sports family. Daniel Theis is now also mentioned in the same breath as Ute Luxon-Czech, Ute Scheile, Ralf Pelle, Henrik Stehlik, Petra Renner, Sabine Unger, Carsten Schinke, Jörg Brandenburg, Karl-Heinz Mildenberger and Gerhard Weidner. Salzgitter is proud of its new world champion and hopes that he will accept the invitation to enter his name in the city's Golden Book.
