Salzgitter

Open day at the factory museum

On Saturday, September 9, Alstom in Salzgitter will open the doors to its factory museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an open day.

According to Alstom, interested visitors can enter the museum directly via the side entrance (at Globus am Nordtor) without prior registration.

The origins of the site, which now belongs to the French Alstom Group, date back to 1893, when Gottfried Linke and his company "Wagenbauanstalt Gottfried Linke" (LHB) in Breslau received their first order for the construction of 100 open freight wagons.

Several exhibits from railroad history are on display. A particular highlight is the court saloon car 2a of Empress Auguste Victoria (1858 - 1921). It is the best preserved of the five court saloon carriages still in existence today. Friends of steam locomotives and the history of streetcars will also get their money's worth here.

The museum is run by former employees of the company on a voluntary basis. During the open day, the numerous helpers will be happy to answer any questions about the exhibits on site.

If you have any further questions, please contact Alstom on 05341 / 9007220.
