This is being done on the initiative of pharmacist Adrian Sievers, who is also bearing the costs. When dismantling the grave monuments, he said: "Several generations of my family are buried in the Vöppstedt cemetery. As part of this year's pharmacy anniversary, I would like to preserve this traditional site here in Salzgitter-Bad by restoring the gravestones and help to preserve the cemetery, which is now used as a park, for the general public."
He has commissioned a metal restorer from Uetze to restore the metal parts of the grave monuments. The stone bases will be cleaned on site and prepared for reinstallation, which is planned for the summer.
He is being supported in this project by the city of Salzgitter's monument protection department. Christoph Lücke, the employee responsible, emphasized during an on-site visit: "From the point of view of monument protection, I find the project very worthy of emulation. The Sievers family is voluntarily committed to protecting and preserving part of the diverse heritage landscape in Salzgitter. It's also an exciting restoration project that doesn't happen very often in this form. "
The two Ortsheimatpfleger responsible for Salzgitter-Bad, Thomas Löser and Holger Rogge, who deal with the history of the cemetery in their daily work and pass this on to interested participants in guided tours, were also on site during the dismantling of the gravestones.
