Salzgitter

Award of the "Forest Fires 2022" medal of the State of Brandenburg

The Salzgitter forest fire team is a unit of the city of Salzgitter's civil protection service and has now been awarded the "Forest Fire 2022" medal by the state of Brandenburg.

The medals were awarded at the annual general meeting of the Salzgitter forest fire team at the beginning of February. The awards were presented by the head of the Salzgitter professional fire department, Fire Director Arne Sicks. "I am proud of the excellent level of training of the emergency services," emphasized Sicks.

The forest fires in 2022 were a great strain for everyone involved, as the fires, which flared up again and again, continued over a long period of time.

The deployment in Brandenburg was something very special for the forest fire team. It was the first time the team had been called out to a supra-regional operation. A total of 14 members of the special unit were deployed over several days. The members were delighted to receive the medal, as they had not expected to receive the award for their voluntary work.

Word of the forest fire team's good work spread quickly. As a result, their specialist knowledge of forest firefighting was also requested for other forest fire operations in Germany. Here, too, the members of the forest fire team performed well.

Fire Director Arne Sicks was very pleased that the forest fire team in Salzgitter is recognized as a disaster control unit. The good cooperation has already paid off several times, also for the Salzgitter fire department. In addition to theoretical training at all levels of the Salzgitter fire department on the subject of "forest and wildfires", regular practical training and further training courses are also held under the direction of the forest fire team's experts.
