Extensive temporary road closures to clear an unexploded bomb

On Tuesday, October 22, there were road closures from 5 p.m. due to the detonation of an unexploded bazooka from the Second World War.

The following roads were affected:

  • Federal highway 39 in both directions between the Lebenstedt-Süd and Lebenstedt-Nord exits,
  • Industriestraße-Mitte between Peiner Straße and Hillenholz and
  • Kanalstraße between Peiner Straße and the entrance to Salzgitter-Hallendorf.

Peiner Straße remained open to traffic.

Rail traffic

Rail services between Lebenstedt and Braunschweig were also suspended from 5 p.m. onwards

What kind of object is it?

The bazooka was found today during explosive ordnance soundings at a construction site near Kanalstraße and must be detonated immediately.

There are no residential buildings in the blasting evacuation area. There is no danger for citizens. The professional fire department and the police ask all road users to drive well clear of the area.
