Mayor Frank Klingebiel is pleased to emphasize: "This is really good news! With the financial support from the state, we can invest more in civil protection. We urgently need another turntable ladder in the city of Salzgitter. Financing this at a cost of around 1.2 million euros exclusively from our own budget would have been an almost unaffordable feat. With the funding, our own contribution is still around 360,000 euros."
Eric Neiseke, First City Councillor and Head of the Fire Department, adds: "The need for an additional turntable ladder is based on the analysis of an external expert and the results of various working groups of the Salzgitter Fire Department. Thanks to the needs allocation, we can now initiate the procurement process." However, Arne Sicks, head of the professional fire department, qualifies: "However, it will take two to three years before delivery. This is due to the currently long delivery times."
Background:
On December 4, the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport (MI) published a press release providing information about these needs-based allocations. This year, 33 particularly financially weak municipalities in Lower Saxony will receive these allocations for special tasks. The needs-based grants amount to a total of around 22.8 million euros.
This will be used to support necessary municipal investments for defensive fire protection measures, such as the procurement of fire department vehicles or construction work on fire department buildings. This form of needs-based allocation supports individual municipal measures and projects up to a maximum of 1.5 million euros.
