Interested women have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with local politics for a year. They can benefit from the experience of active politicians and, if they wish, can then run for a seat on a local or city council.
"The perspectives, experiences and ideas of women are fundamental for a good balance and cooperation in our society," said Minister Dr. Andreas Philippi in his appeal at the start of the program.
Experienced local politicians are also invited to take part in the program as mentors. They will introduce the up-and-coming politicians to politics, let them look over their shoulders, share their own experiences and support the newcomers on their way to becoming candidates. At the same time, they can also benefit from the mentees' different perspectives and impulses.
The mentoring program is being carried out for the seventh time by the "Vernetzungsstelle für Gleichberechtigung" and begins with a kick-off event in Hanover on 24 January 2025. Three supra-regional specialist events complement the program as well as regional support from municipal equal opportunities officers.
Applications from interested women and active elected representatives can be submitted in September and October via the website www.frau-macht-demokratie.de (opens in a new tab)
