In 2022, many committed citizens submitted their ideas for the plans to expand the K 32 "Alte Salzstraße/Am Ritterhof" district road in Gitter as part of a participation process.

The commissioned office SHP Ingenieure from Hanover completed the design planning phase in 2024 based on the knowledge gained from the previous participation dates.

The administration presented the results to citizens at an information event in the canteen of the Salzgitter-Bad secondary school on October 22, 2024.

Around 45 interested people gathered in the school canteen to find out about the results of the project. The employees of the planning office and the city of Salzgitter explained the details of the project and were available to answer further questions.

Results of the design planning

The goals set for the future design are to create barrier-free accessibility, widen the sidewalks and create opportunities for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road. The aim is to create an offer for cyclists, both for everyday journeys and leisure routes.

There was talk of redesigning the entrances to the town. The speed of vehicle traffic is to be reduced through structural and design measures. In order to prevent illegal parking on footpaths, the current plan is to create parking spaces for vehicles. And the townscape is to be beautified by planting trees, whereby the existing vital tree population is to be preserved.
