Salzgitter

Ten years of commitment to Salzgitter's youth celebrated

Ten years of the Salzgitter Youth Parliament: around 80 guests celebrated this at the Forellenhof youth culture workshop. Members of the youth parliament were there, as were former youth parliamentarians and guests from the youth parliaments in Braunschweig and Wolfenbüttel.

Celebrating the tenth birthday of the Youth Parliament (from left): Marco Schmitz, Head of Children, Youth and Family Services of the City of Salzgitter, Christian Striese, Second Mayor of the City of Salzgitter, City Councillor Dr. Dirk Härdrich, Moritz Panning, Managing Director of the Youth Parliament, Erik Maaß, Spokesperson of the Youth Parliament, Tom Ludwig, Secretary of the Youth Parliament and some of the members of the Youth Parliament and guests.

Christian Striese, Second Mayor of the city of Salzgitter, congratulated them on behalf of the Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel, the city council, the administration and also personally. He congratulated the young people on "their" parliament, which exists thanks to motivated Salzgitter residents who stand up for young people in the city. "This is a great success for all of us," said the Second Mayor. He emphasized that the voice of young people is important to the city council and to him as Second Mayor. With the youth parliament, there is a representative body that complements the activities of the city of Salzgitter for children and young people. The youth parliament is therefore a further building block in the child and family-friendly learning city of Salzgitter. Christian Striese thanked all those involved and wished the current youth parliament every success.

City Councillor Dr. Dirk Härdrich looked back on the beginnings of the Salzgitter Youth Parliament. He emphasized that there have been committed young people in Salzgitter for ten years who are active in the youth parliament as the voice of young people. "That is something special." In many other cities, youth parliaments had fallen asleep again after a while. This makes the commitment of the youth parliamentarians in Salzgitter all the more impressive.

Erik Maaß, speaker of the youth parliament (right) and secretary Tom Ludwig looked back on ten years of the youth parliament.

Erik Maaß, spokesperson for the youth parliament, and Tom Ludwig, secretary of the youth parliament, looked back on the activities of the past five youth parliaments: participation in the climate run: Garbage collection at Salzgittersee; participation Day of Racism; Summerbreak party for a good cause, Catcall project, networking and participation in events the two mentioned as well as the commitment to the gates at Steterburg elementary school, the survey of young people around canteen food and the topic of leisure time as well as the anti-racism campaign as part of "Black Lives Matter".

The two highlighted the ideas box, which was initiated by the first youth parliament and is still in existence. "Your ideas are still welcome, as are your suggestions," emphasized Erik Maß. They emphasized that the young people have already achieved a lot over the past ten years, but that the youth parliament will not run out of topics.

It is therefore all the more important that the voice of young people continues to be heard. That is why they hope and wish that there will be more committed people who would like to work for the young people in Salzgitter in their free time.

Everyone toasted to this and celebrated together with music and a varied culinary offering.
