Under the title "By bus through Salzgitter - young people discuss Europe", the participants were able to focus in particular on the impact of political decisions at European level and on their daily lives. Europe was to be experienced in its many facets.
The participants first met at a preparatory meeting, where the young people drew up a list of questions. Only then did they set off on a bus trip through Salzgitter, where the young people met experts from Salzgitter's politics and society to whom they could put their questions.
A total of ten young people took part and were answered by Christian Hasse, managing director of the SPD, Manuel Juhrs of the CDU, Octavia Hagau of the FDP and Lars Tietjen of the Green Party, Rüdiger Skopek from the city's Department for International Affairs, Town Twinning and Special Tasks and Petra Siems, representing the Prevention Council. Dincer Dinc moderated the meeting.
On the bus, the young people were divided into two groups, which changed political and social discussion partners within their group every 20 minutes. While at the beginning they strictly adhered to the predefined list of questions, the discussion was extended to individual political topics as the bus tour progressed. The experts were ready with answers to every question. Not everyone was always of the same opinion, but they remained in lively discussion with the young people. Even during the break at the Graffiti children's and youth club (KJT), discussions on current political issues continued in a relaxed atmosphere.
The two-hour bus trip ended in the council chamber. The results and impressions of the pupils were summarized and the experts gave their very positive summary and feedback to the young people and the coordination and organization team.
