Salzgitter

Candidates wanted for the 2024 Youth Parliament

Anyone who would like to get involved on behalf of young people in Salzgitter can now apply as a candidate for the new youth parliament. The application deadline is March 8, 2024, at 6 p.m.

Around 10,000 young people will then be called upon to elect 25 parliamentarians and three assessors to parliament on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Young people aged between 12 and 20 can stand for election and cast their vote.

But first of all, young people have to register as candidates and put themselves forward by Friday, March 8.

How does that work?

Simply submit the candidacy form with a photo and declaration of consent as well as ten supporting signatures. The candidacy form is now available to download from the City of Salzgitter website (www.salzgitter.de, enter the keyword Youth Parliament).

Applications must be submitted to the City of Salzgitter (Joachim-Campe-Straße 6-8, 38226 Salzgitter or Joachim-Campe-Straße 9-11, 38226 Salzgitter) by 6 p.m. (postmark) on March 8, 2024.

Who can stand as a candidate?

All candidates must have had their main residence in Salzgitter for at least one month on election day (i.e. from February 8).

Young people from the age of 14 up to and including the age of 20 can stand as youth parliamentarians.

Anyone between the ages of 12 and 13 can apply to be an assessor. There are 3 seats available for assessors, who have had the same voting, speaking and motion rights as the youth parliamentarians since May 2017.

The youth parliament meets several times a year (approx. eight to eleven times): This is where the young people pass resolutions and express their wishes and suggestions. Outside of the meetings, there is the opportunity to work on topics of their own choice and plan events or projects. The spokesperson and deputy spokesperson are also advisory members of the youth welfare committee, which can submit motions to be discussed by the city council.

Anyone who has questions about the application or the work of the Youth Parliament can also contact the Children, Youth and Family Department on 05341 / 839-3803 and 05341 / 839-3991 or by email at jugendparlamentstadt.salzgitterde.
