In Germany, the obligation of the EU member states to plan noise abatement in accordance with the directive is anchored in the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG, §§ 47a-f), while the requirements for noise mapping are set out in the Ordinance on Noise Mapping (34th BImSchV).
Since 2007/2008, noise mapping and noise action planning have been carried out every five years. In 2024, the city of Salzgitter will once again have to draw up or update its noise action plan. Previous measures are to be evaluated and suitable noise abatement measures are to be developed for areas that continue to be affected as well as newly affected areas. The public must be involved in the preparation of the noise action plan.
