But how can this area be developed in such a way that it not only meets urban planning and economic requirements, but also ecological and social ones? This question was addressed by the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism (ISU) at TU Braunschweig under the direction of Professor Vanessa Miriam Carlow. Architecture students had six weeks to develop visions for the future of the neighborhood in the north of the Salzgitter-Thiede district as part of a so-called compact design.
The results are now being presented at the town hall in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt. Among the designs, three works stood out in particular and were awarded prizes at the exhibition opening on May 13. The designs were selected by a jury of representatives from urban planning and the environment, business and innovation promotion as well as local government bodies under the leadership of Michael Tacke, head of the building department.
Overall, the jury was impressed by the high level of workmanship of most of the entries and the refreshing approach to developing an overall concept for the available space.
All in all, the KEWachstum?! project provides interesting design approaches for the area in Salzgitter-Thiede, which will be incorporated into the city's further planning. The good cooperation between the city and the ISU should be particularly emphasized, so that further cooperation is being sought.
The exhibition can be visited until June 18, 2024 on the second floor of the atrium in the town hall in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt.
