Salzgitter

Groundbreaking ceremony for all-year pool Stadtbad

Bathing and swimming enthusiasts can rejoice. On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the ground-breaking ceremony for the new year-round pool at the Stadtbad Salzgitter-Lebenstedt took place.

From left to right: Annette Schudrowitz (Management Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH), Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel, Clemens Löcke (Chairman of the Supervisory Board), Doris Holletzek (Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board), David Tarczewski (Head of Stadtbad Salzgtter-Lebenstedt), Stefan Krenge (State Construction Management Braunschweig) & Henning Rothfuss (Construction Management) accompanied by children from St. Markus Kindergarten.

Construction is now underway so that, after ten years, a pool will once again be available to the public in the open air from April 2025.

The former outdoor pool area was decommissioned in 2015. From 2016, the indoor outdoor pool was converted into the Stadtbad, which opened in 2019. Mayor Frank Klingebiel also campaigned for the outdoor pool and the city of Salzgitter applied for funding from the federal program "Renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture" of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction. Thanks to his persistence and with the support of Member of the Bundestag Victor Perli, he was accepted into the funding program in 2020, from which almost 2 million euros will flow to Salzgitter for the renovation of the year-round pool.

The concept for the heated outdoor pool was developed by the architectural firm Geising + Böker from Hamburg in collaboration with the engineering firm Wolff + Partner from Bremen. Four swimming lanes with a length of 25 meters and an adventure area with a slide and bubble zones will provide swimming and bathing pleasure on a water surface of around 360 square meters.
