Sports hall BBS Fredenberg still closed

The sports hall at BBS Fredenberg has been closed since August 7. As cracks were found in the glued laminated beams of the supporting structure, the hall must remain closed until renovation.

During a routine structural visual inspection of the BBS Fredenberg sports hall, cracks were discovered in the glued laminated beams supporting the hall roof. In order to rule out any risk to users, more detailed investigations were then carried out with drill samples, which confirmed these findings. A structural engineer commissioned by the city of Salzgitter recalculated the load-bearing structure and came to the conclusion that the roof structure would have to be renovated before the hall could be used again.

A renovation concept must now be drawn up by the city's own facility management, purchasing and logistics department. The planning and implementation of the necessary work is expected to take until fall 2025.

Until then, the hall must remain closed for safety reasons. City planning officer Michael Tacke emphasizes: "Safety always comes first. That's why I ask all users of the sports hall for their understanding for the closure. We will plan and implement the urgently needed refurbishment as quickly as possible."

Annette Schudrowitz, Managing Director of Bäder, Sport und Freizeit GmbH (BSF), added: "The sports clubs affected will be contacted by our sports office and we will work together to find possible alternatives. I am also appealing to other sports clubs to share their hall times in other halls or to use the halls jointly if necessary. The sportsmen and sportswomen from Salzgitter should stick together here. The sports office will be happy to receive offers by e-mail to sportbsf-szde or by calling 05341 839 4442."
